Introducing the Yamaha CFIIIS full-size concert grand piano c.2009

Crafted in Japan by Yamaha’s master artisans, the Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand represents the pinnacle of more than five decades of concert piano innovation. Measuring an impressive 9 feet (275 cm) in length, the CFIIIS is widely regarded as one of the world’s premier concert instruments, often selected by pianists over such prestigious alternatives as the Steinway Model D and Fazioli F278.

This particular example was manufactured circa 2009 and is among the final CFIIIS pianos produced before the model was succeeded by the Yamaha CFX in 2010. It remains in outstanding condition throughout and is offered freshly serviced, with its cabinetry and brass fittings meticulously polished to an exceptional standard.

Combining world-class performance with outstanding value, this Yamaha CFIIIS presents a rare opportunity to acquire a professional concert grand piano at a fraction of the cost of a new equivalent. It is an ideal choice for concert halls, educational institutions, recording studios, and performance venues seeking a distinguished instrument of the highest calibre.

The result of decades of continuous refinement

The first-generation Yamaha CF concert grand, introduced in 1967, was met with immediate acclaim and quickly established a reputation for exceptional quality and a powerful tone capable of projecting above a full orchestra. It was chosen for several international piano competitions and became a preferred instrument for leading pianists such as Sviatoslav Richter and Glenn Gould.

Over subsequent decades, Yamaha’s constant innovation and numerous prototype developments helped the CF series become a benchmark concert instrument for leading artists, prestigious concert halls, and top educational institutions worldwide. The CFIII arrived in 1983, followed by the CFIII-S in 1991, by which time Yamaha had produced over five million acoustic upright and grand pianos. In 1998, Russian pianist Denis Matsuev won first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow performing on a CFIII-S, further strengthening Yamaha’s global reputation as a world-class piano maker. Additional refinements were introduced in 1996 and 2001, making the 2009 example—produced just before the CFIII-S was succeeded by the CFX—a highly evolved version of Yamaha’s flagship CF design.

Refined and ideally suited for the concert stage

The CFIII-S features an elegant high-gloss ebony finish with polished brass fittings, meticulously prepared by skilled technicians and presented in excellent condition. A three-position lid prop allows for flexible tonal control depending on performance needs, from solo recital to ensemble use. Both the lid and softly closing fallboard can be secured for added safety, while robust brass castors make stage movement smooth and effortless, with locking mechanisms ensuring stability during performance.

The unmistakable Yamaha concert grand voice

Across its 50-year evolution, the Yamaha concert grand has been carefully refined, with its design principles influencing much of the wider Yamaha range and helping define the recognisable “Yamaha sound.” Often described as “bel canto” or “beautiful singing,” it features a bright, sparkling treble, clear bell-like articulation, and a rich, powerful midrange. This versatility makes the CFIII-S equally at home in classical, romantic, jazz, and contemporary settings.

Its sonic character also underpins much of Yamaha’s digital piano, stage piano, and keyboard range, making it one of the most widely referenced concert grand voices in modern music production.
